Introduction

My main research interest is in the processing of biological signals with the aim of understanding control strategies of the neuromuscular system. This includes the use of biological signals, e.g. electromyographic (EMG) and acousticmyographic (AMG) signals for the control of external devices (e.g. artifical limbs), the analysis of motor unit action potentials and electromyographic signals, and also the study of tremolous activity (tremor) affecting limbs under a natural (physiological) or pathological process (e.g. Parkinson's disease, essential tremor).

In the sections below I present a brief overview of my research activities. I have also included a pdf version of some publications. From the menu above, students or researchers may have access, through the menu Resources, to useful pieces of code and toolboxes that I have been writing over the years for digital signal processing, data visualization and acquistion, which are implemented in C/C++, MFC (Visual C++), MatLab and Labview (G language). If you have just decided to migrate from any text editor to Latex then there is a special section with examples for you. If you are looking for information regarding basic and advanced techniques for data analysis you also may find something interesting. Through Links you will have access to my selection of relevant journals and books in the field of Biomedical Engineering. From Research Projects you will find a brief description of some projects I have been involved and their main results.

I hope the information presented in this personal web page is relevant for your research. If you have any comments or queries about my research or any information in this document, please contact me at aoandrade@yahoo.com.br, aoandrade@iee.org or a.d.o.andrade@rdg.ac.uk (see also CV Lattes - CNPq).
